There is an outage today with Postini System 200. Google has already acknowledged the issue and is working on resolving it:

Description:
This morning (UTC) we have noticed a spike in errors served by Postini System 200 affecting both inbound and outbound mail flow.

Affected message are deferred by Postini servers with error "421 Server busy, try again later". Since this is a temporary error, the sender should retry to send affected messages later and messages should be delivered. However, recipients would still notice delivery delays.

Our specialised teams are still investigating this occurrence. Updates will be provided as soon as possible

How to diagnose:
1 - Sending / Receiving messages through Postini outbound/inbound servers
2 - Postini defers message with error "421 Server busy, try again later"
3 - Sender receives NDR

  1. Looks as it the backup system has kicked into gear and the messages are slowly trickling in/out. Please note that you will not see this traffic in any graphs in Postini, but the messages are flowing.

  2. Google is still working on the issue. We will keep you posted as soon as there is a resolution. It is also now noted on the Apps Status page as an issue:

  3. New update from Google is that they ate still working on the issue: "Our team is continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update in 1hour with more information about this problem. Thank you for your patience."

  4. Latest update from Google 10:07 PM EST. "Our team is continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 5/7/13 8:36 PM with more information about this problem. Thank you for your patience.
    Due to network issues affecting System 200, inbound and outbound mail is being deferred with 421 errors. The deferrals are continuing to subside and our network operations team is working with the 3rd parties on implementing the final resolution."

    The problem with Postini Services should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.
    Our network operations team identified a 3rd party issue that was affecting System 200 inbound and outbound mail. Customers were experiencing 421 errors that resulted in deferrals.
